Indigenization is the foundation of
globalization; globalization is the extension of Indigenization. We hope
our next generation will stand on this land with global perspectives. It’s
an important issue of local education to teach our next generation to
explore the beauty of hometown, inherit our culture, identify with the
land, and be grateful to others. Hence, we will reinforce implementing
Mother Tongue Day in every school and cultivating students’ ability to use
mother tongue in daily life. Furthermore, we will continue to reinforce
indigenous education by rooting mother tongue in children, implanting
local education, and discovering the beauty of Kaohsiung.
With the spell of Knowledge-based Economy Age, innovation and developing specialties are two essential directions in education. Only when education continues to innovate can a city be competitive in the era of globalization. Bureau of Education will be more committed to developing innovative teaching and school management, advocating the integration of education with creativity, and reinforcing developing schools’ specialties. Moreover, we will continue to promote programs in which cross-campus credit hours are included in basic teaching requirements, allowing high school or vocational high school students to take college-level courses, establishing small-school alliances, running sustainable campus, cultivating music talent for every child, developing school-centered model of cultivating talents in every district, etc.
In addition to strengthening local education, key policies of Bureau of Education also encompass the internationalization of local education, international exchanges, and the broadening of teachers and students’ global perspective. Since Kaohsiung won the honor to host the World Games 2009 in June, 2004, Kaohsiung City Government and all of its organizations and schools have mobilized to organize related work of the World Games 2009. This important event will help expand citizens, teachers, and students’ global vision, build up confidence of all the citizens, and promote abundant opportunities for city development.
Besides continuing to promote organizations and schools to share the load of adopting certain sports items, Kaohsiung Bureau of Education also mobilizes schools to adopt countries of participant teams and establishes related facilities to enable students to get to know cultures and customs of different countries. In addition, we initiate the project of “Global Village— English World,” School of the Future, international exchanges among teachers and students, to develop students’ creativity, help them take the initiative to explore, cultivate love for this homeland , develop global perspective, and assume global competitiveness. With these measures, we firmly believe education can not only plow local education but also cultivate students’ visions for the world.
